The D.C. Farm to School Week Kick-off Event on Monday Oct. 3rd was a huge success! Four local chefs competed to make the tastiest salad using D.C. school garden produce, and students will led tours of Thurgood Marshall Academy's Great Garden of Anacostia. Over 45 schools participated D.C. Farm to School Week and coordinated hands-on food and farm activities for students! Seasonal, local foods were featured in school meals in over 200 schools. Since the week is now over, please get on our newsletter to hear about other upcoming events!

D.C. Farm to School Week was brought to you by the D.C. Farm to School Network and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education Department of Wellness and Nutrition Services. The D.C. Farm to School Network is an organization that aims to get more healthy, local food into Washington, DC school meals, and educate kids about where food comes from. The Network is housed in the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture. The Office of the State Superintendent of Education Department of Wellness and Nutrition Services supports farm to school and school garden programs as mandated in the Healthy Schools Act by conducting needs assessments, providing technical assistance, and coordinating the efforts of service providers.
