Fresh, locally-grown foods will be the centerpiece of healthy, well-balanced school meals during the week. Have your child participate in the school meal program October 3-7, 2011 to get in on the action! You can probably find the exact menu on your school's website.
Know what’s in season.
Farmers in the Washington, DC area have lots of produce available in October, such as apples, pears, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, winter squash, potatoes, kale, collards, broccoli and cauliflower.
Visit a nearby garden or farm.
